Disruption in the legal industry has been happening for a while. I am certainly not the only one who promotes it. Here are some great resources on how you can get involved or learn about disruption that is going on around you. (Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of the universities, organizations (other than Shape the Law) or writers below).

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 1.18.35 PMShape the Law was founded by four lawyers, me, Alexandra Devendra, Jeena Cho and Laura Maechtlen. We collaborated together to plan a first Unconference for Women lawyers. What is an unconference? It’s a participant-driven meeting that emphasizes the informal exchange of information and ideas, rather than following a conventionally structured program of events. Unconferences have not yet caught on among lawyers, but Shape the Law intends to change that. The legal profession is on the brink of unprecedented change – and what better way to shape the future of our profession than through innovative programs that maximize creativity and knowledge sharing.

Our first unconferences, Wellness, Wealth and Wisdom: An Unconference for Women Lawyers, will take place this Spring. If you’d like to hear about future unconferences (which will not be limited to women), please join our mailing list.

In his latest book, Richard claims that legal institutions and lawyers are poised to change more radically over the next two decades than they have over the last two centuries.

The future of legal service… will be a world of virtual courts, Internet-based global legal businesses, online document production, commoditized service, legal process outsourcing, and web-based simulated practice. Legal markets will be liberalized, with new jobs, and new employers, for lawyers. Follow him @richardsusskind

Technology is becoming fully integrated in the practice of law. Our legal work is now more dependent on the use of technology, in and out of the office. It helps us to practice more efficiently, serve clients more effectively, and better manage our daily lives. As technology evolves, it can be difficult to stay informed of the latest advancements. With so many different options to choose from it can be difficult knowing what’s the most suitable to you and your practice. This is where ABA TECHSHOW can help. Follow them @ABATECHSHOW

Stay tuned! More to come!
